What Does a Developmental Educator Do?
A Developmental Educator applies a multidisciplinary and holistic approach, drawing on developmental, behavioural, learning, and social theories to assess, plan, and support individuals across different aspects of life.
Â
This includes:
✔ Social and friendship skills – Learning to build, maintain, and navigate relationships.
✔ Emotional regulation & self-esteem – Understanding feelings, coping with challenges, and building confidence.
✔ Flexible thinking & problem-solving – Adapting to change and handling transitions smoothly.
✔ Functional life skills – Supporting self-care, daily living tasks, and independent living.
✔ Behaviour support – Creating positive strategies to encourage personal growth and well-being.
✔ Education & curriculum access – Helping students transition, engage with learning, and succeed in school settings.
✔ Employment readiness – Developing skills to find and maintain meaningful vocational opportunities.
✔ Self-advocacy & inclusion – Encouraging individuals to express their needs and access their communities.
✔ Parental & caregiver coaching – Providing guidance to families to support development at home.
✔ Transitions in life – Supporting smooth changes, whether it’s moving schools, homes, or life stages.
How Does It Work?
At Authentic Inclusion, our approach is always person-centred and strengths-based. We begin with an initial assessment to understand the unique needs, goals, and circumstances of each individual and their family.
Â
From there, we develop a tailored plan in collaboration with the person’s support network, ensuring that our strategies are practical, achievable, and designed to enhance real-life independence. Whether working one-on-one or within bespoke small groups, we create safe, supportive spaces where individuals can develop essential life skills.

Many Developmental Educators, including myself, are also trained in Positive Behaviour Support and can conduct behavioural assessments to create effective, proactive strategies for managing challenges.
Why Choose Authentic Inclusion?
With a background in education and a deep passion for capacity-building, I work not only with individuals but also with families, teachers, and communities to create long-lasting change. My goal is to empower, advocate, and provide practical strategies that truly make a difference in everyday life.
At Authentic Inclusion, we see the person, not just the disability. We focus on possibilities, strengths, and achievable steps forward.
